“The thing I love most? I don’t have to think about it. It’s simple. It’s clean. It just works.”
Vegan Streetfood started in 2018 with 20 jars of pea protein. Braidy’s mom took them to a local market and came home with an empty table.
“There was nothing like it out there. No vegan protein without fillers, no compostable refills, nothing,” says Braidy. That first sell-out sparked the journey.
As customers asked how to use the product, the range expanded into mock meats, pies, chicken, kebabs and ribs. Braidy joined the business full-time just before lockdown and helped scale it from a local delivery service into a national food brand.
Today, Vegan Streetfood serves delicious, plant powered meals from the Salt Food Market, serves big events and offers private catering with their food truck, and ships vegan goods across South Africa through their online store.
The challenge
Braidy has tested nearly every point of sale (POS) system on the market. Some had all the features. Others came with a price tag that didn’t match the value. None of them truly supported the fast-paced, multi-channel nature of her business.
“I’ve flip-flopped between all the different systems, but I always come back to Yoco. I just do. It’s easy. It looks good. It works.”
Before switching, the food truck didn’t have a printer. Orders were shouted back and forth. Queues built up. Mistakes slipped through. At festivals, when Wi-Fi dropped, the team had to rely on memory to keep orders moving.
“We sometimes had lines 100 deep. My mom would shout orders to us, and we just had to try remember. We were pumping it out. But it was too much.”
Yoco Counter and the Yoco Printer has given their food truck the stability they needed to focus on food, not firefighting.
The solution
When Yoco Counter launched, Braidy didn’t hesitate. She needed something that could work in both the kiosk and the food truck. Setup was quick. Integration was clean. And the experience clicked right away.
“It’s really, really cool. It’s done so nicely. It’s easy and accessible. My mom can log on and load things without me needing to hold her hand.”
What stood out most:
Printer included: “I love that you offer your own printer that just works. With others, it was a guessing game”
Clear design: “The screens are simple. My team doesn’t get confused”
Reliable setup: “You’re not stuck troubleshooting when you need to be selling”
Everything stays in sync: “Discounts, product changes, price tweaks – it’s all quick to update”
Accurate reporting: “I can see what’s selling, what’s not, what needs to come off the menu”
Yoco Counter changed the pace of service, especially in the food truck. Instead of shouted orders and guesswork, the team works off printed tickets. Orders come in. Food goes out. Everyone’s calmer.
“Now we’ve got a system. Orders come in, print out, and get stuck on the ticket line. Everyone’s clear on what’s next. No shouting. No missed orders.”
With the kiosk, it’s about visibility and control. The team can see what’s busy, update items as needed, and operate independently. And Braidy can focus on what matters.
Built for a business that keeps evolving
Vegan Streetfood has changed shape many times. They’ve run a full café, a fleet of dark kitchens, a delivery business, and now a leaner kiosk and food truck model. Through all of that, one thing has stayed consistent.
“We’ve stuck with Yoco because it’s stable and it grows with us.”
With four sub-brands, multiple sales channels and a small team doing big things, Yoco Counter helps keep operations tight, sales moving, and the brand looking professional at every touchpoint.
