For independent businesses across the Western Cape, the Kfm Best of the Cape Awards, powered by Yoco, is more than just an event. It’s a celebration of energy and dedication that makes our communities thrive.
This year’s awards, held for the second year in a row, on 15 August 2025, brought together thousands of listeners to honour the local legends who make the Cape a special place to live, work, and play.
A record-breaking year of recognition
This year, the community’s support was impressive. Over 17,000 nominations were submitted (an 80% increase from 2024) and more than 400,000 votes were cast (up 33% year-on-year).

From family-run eateries and boutique bakeries to innovative experience providers, the finalists represented the variety and creativity of Cape businesses.
Celebrating our merchants
"At Yoco, our mission has always been to empower small businesses, so it was especially exciting to see several of our merchants crowned winners."
Natasha Fourie, Head of Media & Insights at Yoco
Their recognition is proof of the extraordinary work being done by entrepreneurs across the province.
Several Yoco merchants were recognised as winners or placed in the new Silver and Bronze tiers. These extra tiers were introduced this year alongside the traditional winners, which allowed more businesses to be celebrated for the work they’re doing in their communities.

A highlight was the Yoco’s Choice Award announcement, created to spotlight an up-and-coming business showing strong growth and community engagement. For the second year in a row, Weirdough Bakery & Deli earned the honour: a local favourite that has quickly gained popularity.

More than just awards
For us at Yoco, this partnership isn’t only about trophies. It’s about giving small businesses visibility, recognition, and confidence. Every nomination and vote reminds entrepreneurs that their work matters, their communities notice, and their hustle is appreciated.
By partnering with Kfm, we’re helping to amplify those voices and inspire even more South Africans to support local.
Looking ahead
As we reflect on another unforgettable year of the Best of the Cape Awards, one thing is clear: the spirit of entrepreneurship in the Western Cape is stronger than ever.
We’re proud to walk alongside these bold business owners, providing the tools, platforms, and opportunities they need to thrive. Whether that’s through payments, point of sale (POS) solutions like Yoco Counter, or partnerships that put them centre stage.
Here’s to the winners, the dreamers, and the everyday hustlers. You are the best of the Cape.
