Running a restaurant takes more than just great food - it’s about efficient service, memorable customer experiences, and seamless operations. Table by Yoco simplifies and streamlines all restaurant operations in one system.
In a recent chat with Mohamed El Shamy, the Head of the Table by Yoco programme, he gave us insights into how his team is bringing this innovative solution to life, tackling unique challenges, and ensuring it meets the real needs of restaurant owners.
As they build out Table, the team is growing - there are opportunities for those eager to make an impact in this space.
Connecting with Yoco’s mission
Mohamed first connected with Yoco when one of the recruiters reached out to discuss a new opportunity at the company. He didn’t have a background in fintech and knew little about the company, but was intrigued by Yoco’s mission.
He was drawn to Yoco through his deeper alignment with the company’s values. He realised that Yoco’s goals went beyond immediate business objectives; they focus on solving real-world, impactful problems with people who shared common goals.
“It’s never about the specific role you’re going into, because these can change all the time. Who you work with, the mission behind Yoco - that’s what really gripped me.”
Through a series of conversations, Mohamed was inspired by the Yoco team, united in their goal to empower business owners. He started to understand the company’s deeper purpose and the mission-driven culture he would be joining: “Throughout every interaction I had through the process, I realised this was the place I wanted to be in.”
Experimenting through ambiguity
After a year working at Yoco, Mohamed joined the Table team as Head of the programme at the ideation and experimentation phase of the product. Although challenging, Mohamed embraced the ambiguity that came with testing this new product in the fintech market:
“It was about testing the waters without knowing what to expect, and that requires a deep sense of curiosity, agility, and the ability to adapt quickly to new information.”
The motivation behind Table came from recognising the complexities faced by restaurant owners:
“We wanted to provide real value. And what was crystal clear for us is we wanted to help these business owners unlock the complexities they have.”
This kind of problem-solving mindset is at the foundation of Table. The team strives to address the needs of individual restaurant owners while driving Yoco’s growth in a competitive market.
Table by Yoco explained
Table is a comprehensive restaurant management system that goes beyond a traditional point-of-sale solution. It acts as a system for all restaurant operations.
“If you are a restaurant owner, the current scenario usually involves juggling multiple systems and dealing with various suppliers.”
This can cause chaos, leading to inefficiencies and a lack of insight into operations. Table simplifies this by integrating all operational functions into one platform, providing a holistic view of the business and streamlining processes. It reduces the administrative burden for restaurant owners.
“With Table, you can turn tables faster, allowing you to serve more customers with the same amount of staff.”
This means that restaurant owners can increase their top line without the need for additional staff members, which drives profitability.
By automating and simplifying tasks that typically consume valuable time - like end-of-day cash ups - owners can reclaim hours that have been previously spent on administrative work:
“This newfound efficiency allows restaurant owners to redirect their focus towards what they truly love: providing exceptional culinary experiences and delighting their customers.”
Driving success as an Installation & Support Engineer
Our Installation & Support Engineers sit at the heart of enabling and empowering restaurant owners through Table.
It’s a dynamic role that’s an integral part of delivering Yoco’s restaurant management system: “The engineers start by surveying the restaurant site to create a tailored plan that outlines the necessary hardware and software customisations.”
Customising the system ensures that it’s specifically designed to meet the needs of each restaurant.
Once the planning phase is complete, engineers begin configuring and setting up the system, followed by on-site installation, which can take one to three days, depending on the size of the venue. They build a robust network, set up the hardware, and customise the system’s menus and order flows to align with the restaurant’s specific processes.
“Engineers are also responsible for training the restaurant team on how to use the system. They’re present on-site during the go-live phase, to ensure a smooth transition.”
After this initial setup, the engineers continue to provide technical support when needed, addressing any support requirements that may come up.
“This job is not routine; every site is different. It’s an exciting opportunity for those who thrive on creativity and innovation.”
What sets this role apart is its focus on problem-solving and continuous learning. Every installation will present unique challenges, as every restaurant has a different layout and operational requirements.
Thriving in the Installation & Support Engineer role
An Installation & Support Engineer isn’t just an installation role - it’s a position that demands constant adaptation and creativity.
“The role requires the ability to find creative solutions to new problems, as every restaurant is different.”
Every customer has distinct needs, and the engineers tailor Table specific to the venue’s layout, processes, and goals. For those who enjoy variety in their job and the stimulation of daily problem-solving, the dynamic and engaging nature of this role will be a good fit.
Besides the required technical acumen, the role also demands strong communication skills as the engineers are responsible for ensuring a seamless, supportive experience: “It’s a customer-facing function - the engineers act as brand ambassadors.”
They need to work alongside the restaurant owners and employees during the setup phase, and when they’re called on for technical support.
Installation & Support Engineers are also fundamental in process development within the Table team. It requires input to shape how the team operates and continuously improves service delivery:
“We’re always building our processes, and we have a dynamic team of interesting individuals that support each other and grow together.”

Those driven by curiosity, who are relentless problem-solvers and eager for growth, will thrive as a Yoco Installation & Support Engineer.
