In the next 3 to 4 years, Yoco will have at least a million payment devices under management on its payment platform. The majority of these payment devices will require SIM cards for connectivity and network access. This will be the largest install base of payment terminals in Africa and the Middle East. Yoco is looking for an IoT & Connectivity Lead, to help us guarantee that payments work for small businesses in South Africa and beyond. Our intention is to grow and manage this capability in-house, as this is core to the delivery of our market leading payments experience.
 
As the IoT & Connectivity Lead, you will work closely with our various hardware teams and provide strategic, tactical and operational support in this space.  You will be a part of our growing Cloud Engineering & ICT Team tasked with ensuring that we provide a high quality, cost effective and stable service for all our growing base of customers.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE | WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

Key requirements to perform responsibilities:

Background:
 
  • Lead the Connectivity function in partnership with your counterparts in Engineering.
  • Build, and manage the IoT & Connectivity team.
  • Designing, managing and maintaining the device connectivity program for our new and existing products.
  • Collaborate across several company partners including engineering, product, design, finance, marketing, data science, legal, compliance, risk and support
  • Identify and influence the selection and onboarding of new partnerships in collaboration with the product and engineering functions.
  • Design solutions that cater for the evolving connectivity needs of our customers and products.
  • Ensuring that the path from where we are today to over 1 million connected devices is smooth.
  • Managing the end to end life cycle of sim cards from sourcing to termination in collaboration with our logistics function and other teams.
  • Own service and platform costs and drive partner negotiations and route optimisations.
  • You have comfort and experience managing large budgets and engaging with financial stakeholders.
 
IDEAL CANDIDATE | WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
 
Key requirements:
 
  • You have a technical and networking background and an ability to get into the details that others avoid to build solutions differently.
  • Candidates with experience at a networking vendor such as Nokia Networks, Ericsson and Huawei preferred.
  • You understand the fundamentals of radio and core network connectivity, and are able to balance your technical know how with operational and commercial skills to achieve business results.
  • Able to balance a long term view and pragmatic stage appropriate delivery.
  • You take responsibility.  The buck stops with you and you make sure that it works.
  • You escalate early, and create strategic options to mitigate issues that may arise in future by taking intelligent actions early.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to “stand his or her ground” when required
  • Entrepreneurial thinking; foremost result-oriented, able to think on a high level of  abstraction
