Phillip Modiba of Base Brick Manufacturing Enterprise.
Phillip is a family-orientated man whose vision is concerned with solving the economic troubles of our country. Hailing from Polokwane, Phillip took to establishing Base Brick Manufacturing Enterprise as a means of solving generational poverty, as well as providing employment in a rural area in Polokwane.

We can relate to the business as a family because of where we come from. We have noticed throughout our life, and with our experiences of life, that the best thing in life is to have a very good base — hence the ‘base’ in our business name.

Phillip started his business after he noticed the demand for a brick manufacturing business within his area. There is an immense housing development taking place, and it only made sense for him to provide the material needed for it.

Small businesses are what South Africa needs. They are very important because they will alleviate the pressure that the government has when it comes to creating jobs. There are challenges in terms of funding small businesses because it’s not easy to get funding. But we do need small business because they help to employ people that will then be able to put food on the table. This also helps people, to not only to earn a salary, but to learn skills. That way, they can be able to better themselves by doing things for themselves.
